Heather Champion

Heather is a Licensed Mental Health Counselor (Lic# MH 14392) and a Registered Yoga Teacher (RYT-200). After working for 15 years in the corporate world and achieving the title of Vice President in a multinational corporation Heather noticed that her colleagues, employees, and sometimes random strangers seemed to enjoy talking to her about their personal troubles. She noticed a natural ability to help others feel more calm and at peace with themselves. It took a few more years before she found an opportunity in what would typically be considered an obstacle by taking a severance package and enrolling in the Mental Health Counseling MA program at Adelphi University’s Derner Institute of Advanced Psychological Studies. Heather completed the program in 2013 and while enrolled completed yoga teacher training with the Yoga Institute and a certification in Trauma Sensitive Yoga (TSY) as well as additional training in Principle Based Partner Yoga (PBPY). While studying at Adelphi Heather focused her studies on the integration and best practices of the integration of psychotherapy and yoga and developed an existential group psychotherapy model which she coined Maitri Therapy where participants work to learn universal loving kindness with themselves as they also learn emotional regulation through a variety of interventions. Heather believes in providing her clients with a nurturing environment to explore such issues as anxiety, depression, PTSD, addiction, and other difficulties with emotional dysregulation. She employs an eclectic blend of styles of psychotherapy with yogic philosophy as well as other eastern philosophies. Heather also holds an MA in Industrial/Organizational Psychology from Hofstra University and a BA in Psychology from Stony Brook University. Phone: 561-291-4226 (Lic# MH 14392)
